I’m proud to be an Indian but sometimes this pride has to take a backseat. We are a nation of over a billion people, supporting over 15% of the worlds population, abundance of intellectual talent, but even then its hard to believe that we cannot produce medal winners in the world sports arena. The Indian sports authorities spent over Rs. 100 crore (=around 21 million US dollars) in the last two years for the preparation of the Indian Olympic team and what has been achieved of this so far – 1 silver medal. Who’s to blame – the sports authorities, the athletes and sports-person or us – the people of India who support the so called “system”?
