Personal Computer in a Pen?
At first, it looks like a pick from a sci-fi show or a Bond movie, but can it possibly be true that the cumbersome desktop, or even a laptop, may someday be replaced by a set of pen-like computing gadgets that fit neatly in your pocket?
The innovative folks at NEC Design, Ltd. in Tokyo say yes. Their concept is an an experimental product called the P-ISM, described by NEC designers as a “Pen-style Personal Networking Gadget Package.”
A prototype of the system cost a reported $30,000 to build. What it essentially exhibits is a pen-style device without a solid-state keyboard or display-unit, but rather an interactive projection. There are similar similar “projection keyboard” technologies offered by companies such as Virtual Devices and Lumio. Some more technical details about this project are published at the Wave Report.
