Last weekend, I watched the new hindi movie “Iqbal – The Rampur Express” starring Shreyas Talpade (as Iqbal), Naseeruddin Shah, Girish Karnad, Shweta Prasad & Kapil Dev (in a special appearence). Directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, the movie was what I would term as refreshing cinema – simply different & differently simple. The movie revolves around the journey of a young deaf-n-dumb village boy who’s life is the game of cricket, and how he evetually wears the “blue uniform” against all odds. Having said that, the movie is not about cricket – its about one’s dreams and making them come true – come what may! So when the going get’s tough, the tough get’s going. Shreyas has acted quite well, Naseer is awesome and Shweta (Iqbal’s younger sister) is a sweet delight to watch – she made me remember my sister back home 🙁 So you can guess she was that good! I loved the last scene of the movie which left a bit unsaid and yet made it all so clear. The movie resembled “Black” in some elements but the narrative set’s both the movies apart – in their own league.

I wish the Indian film industry would “experiment” more often and exhibit quality cinema like this one movie. Last to last weekend I watched “Sehar” which was a good movie again. A bit slow and dull in part, it is based on a true story set amindst the cop vs gangster incident in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh (UP). Next up, I’m looking forward to watching “Saalam Namaste” (shot in Melbourne) and “Being Cyrus” – as & when they are released here.
